To be or not to be .. Sensitive

Allright , it´s been a while.

As this is my personal blog and fully independent from my professional blog, i am going to let go of something which buggers me a lot and i have no idea how to deal with.

Very recently, a someone i have known for ages and has never ever showed any unexpected behavior, suddenly turns up at home with medicine to start a transgendering process. This an adult man which has never been seen in womens clothes prior to this process, neither at home nor in public and has never indicated he has had any interests whatsoever in this . He has neither (as far as i know of) shown up at a Gay Pride Parade to support other LGBT .

Of course i am totally in a shock and still surprized beyond belief, but am trying to take this as an "one day at time" thing and am trying my best despite my shock to talk to the man and gain some insight on what is happening. Still i get accused to be "unsupportive" , "prejudiced"  Etc ,  which just adds to the depression i am currently feeling over this.

Would it really be right of this family member to burst out with such accusations, even if i realize he might not be fully in balance due to said medication himself ?

Would it be right of me to encourage him to try and take it easy ? I know i am no expert in this matter.

Am i just too sensitive and should take it easy myself ?

It goes without saying that my mind is like  a whirlpool of questions which i do not even know how to ask properly. Being straightly heterosexual myself this is a completely new experience which i have no idea how to deal with.

Enough for now,

Bewildered beyond belief;
Chick

The Yule Cat

The Yule Cat ( aka The Christmas Cat)

An old Icelandic folklore states that everyone has to get at least one new piece of clothing at Christmas. Anyone who did not was in danger of being eaten by a gigantic malicious beast called the Yule Cat. The Yule Cat is alleged to be  Grýla’s cat (see also the legend of the Yule Lads) and every effort was made to ensure that no-one would “go into the Christmas Cat” (ie: be eaten). Thus, everyone worked hard to make a new piece of clothing for each member of the household.

The above mentioned Grýla is a troll of legend that supposedly kidnapped naughty children, stuck them into an haversack, went home to her cave and ate them there.

Jólakötturinn as he is called in Icelandic, found his story to be elevated when captured in the poetic lines of Jóhannes úr Kötlum in his poem that bears the same name as the tyrannical kitty and it seemed to have given resurgence to an older myth.

No-one really knows how long  the Yule Cat has been around, the first surviving written stories about him arose in the 19th century  (these were probably aimed at lazy children) altough there are similar tales from Scandinavia and some still older legends that indicate a monster of this sort has been around since the dark ages. These tales seem to have been used as threats to encourage people into finishing up the processing of wool from the fall season before Christmas.

It seem´s to have worked, as to this day everyone gets a new piece of clothing either before or on Christmas.

How this relates in today’s world is another matter. With many people out of work and homelessness still a huge issue, perhaps Jólakötturinn’s message can be translated into encouraging selfless acts.  How nice it would be if those who do have would take both a moment and a dollar to provide for those who have not by supporting shelters and like-minded organizations.  For animals also. Who was actually productive and what productivity itself means may be subjective in the eyes of the Yule Cat, but wouldn’t it be nice to stave off his hunger this year with everyone, worldwide, having a new piece of clothing to call their own.

That´s enough for today.

Happy New Year ;
Chick

On a day like this....

Having a look at the aftermath of the US presidental election , I feel we here  can be considered lucky. Not with just two equally evil choices according to my American friends, but with almost a dozen different candidates for our election last summer. Our choices were both good and evil as it goes, but the candidate who won is a trustworthy man  the nation can be content with.

We recently had a governmental election as well ....

In a country where everyone has a right to express their thoughts and the right to be either right or wrong it is essential for the politicians to listen to the people -and for the people to really listen to the politics - not just let someone else tell them who or what is right or wrong.

Thank goodness for the freedom to think  and the right  to vote.People of many nations do not have that right,   nor  the freedom to express their opinions.

Have a nice day :)

A new blog

A new blog. It is like a new beginning, anything can happen.

First:  Who is Lacechick ?

Design interested, history geek, music enthusiasist, photographer amateur, nature lover , all of these apply and many more. Any of these may be featured on this new blog in the future, but let us start with thinking.

I am not going to write up an essay of any kind today, this is more intended to be contemplative when I am not tackling a special project or interest.

So, a little food for thought . Why is it when someone  says they are interested in design, other people think immediately of clothing and fashion? Design is all around us and one does not really have to be fashion centered to create. Which is what design is all about. Design is like magic that can happen in any field, be it videogaming or  architecture. Or anything. Anyone can create and anyone can inspire others to do so.

Have a magical day.
Lacechick.
